Inside Our Shop

Step 1

We know that stance on a vehicle is very important. Stance is everything. Ride height and wheel size and wheel base determine the Stance of the vehicle. When a customer brings a new project into our shop, we spend the time trial fitting wheels and tires to set up the desired ride height and wheels size choices to the customers liking.  Through customer input and time with a tape measure we are able to figure out the game plan for the stance before
the fabrication work ever begins. We are able to build cars that have an extremely lowered ride height with full suspension travel and proper geometry due to the extensive work that we do to the chassis due to the preplanning and engineering we do to achieve this. This allows you to have that bad ass stance as your going down the freeway at 90 mph or into your driveway. Not just when you let the air out of the suspension at the show. Most of our cars are build with 4-5.5” of ground clearance built in, which is more than a new Corvette. We do not have to destroy the geometry to make our cars look good. Ironworks builds cars that are made to handle all the way through the turn and look good doing it.

After all this, we then send these number to the artist for a rendering. If you have the artist do the rendering before these numbers are known then you may end up with a rendering for a car that sure looks cool but is impossible to build.

Step 2

After getting the important numbers from the mock up stage, we are now able to set the car on the jig with the ride height and wheels size built per the customers specs. We then weld the car to the jig and set up spindle centers and wheel base, with important number like track width, taken into account. One important thing to note is that when you radically modify the ride height, most of the times the tire needs to be moved around in the fender opening to absolutely look perfect. ( I know we are nit picky) Another important thing is to have enough room to turn the tires lock to lock without fender or frame contact at this lowered ride height.

Step 3

At this stage we have set all the basics of what the car will look like, now we go about setting up the front and rear suspension and the correct geometry. We then go about setting the engine and trans into the vehicle where it will have good ground clearance. Taking into account things like rack clearance, header clearance, Engine accessories location, radiator and fan clearance, Etc.
